CITIZEN OF UK AND MOLDOVA ASKS PRESIDENT SANDU TO GUARANTEE JUSTICE IN INVESTIGATION OF THE CASE OF HER AUNT’S DEATH

Ms. Marina Vasilieva, a citizen of Great Britain and Moldova, asked President Maia Sandu to enforce the law in the death of her aunt, Marietta Ryabtseva.

Vasilieva said Monday at a press conference at Infotag that she did not at all seek to replace the work of professional investigators or the impartiality of the judiciary.

“In the very death of my relative and even now, several years later (since October 2018), many questions remain. The legal authorities are in no hurry to give answers to them, and even deliberately slow down the investigation. My aunt passed away on October 4 after signing a contract for her lifetime maintenance with her family physician. This paper implied not only medical care by the family doctor, but also giving him an apartment in the Botanica Sector of Chisinau”, Vasilieva said.

She said it turned out that her old aunt had gone blind eight days before her death and had been diagnosed with inoperable cancer.

"She was cared for in the last months by the same doctor, and what he gave her with such diagnoses is unknown. It is also unknown how adequate her aunt was when she was signing real estate documents in favor of the doctor”, stated Vasilieva.

Lawyer Roman Stici said during the press conference that there are indeed many questions in the case, and that an examination of the real estate documents was conducted in order to find out how adequate Marietta Ryabtseva at signing them.

“The graphologist reported that the documents were signed 'under unusual circumstances.' We would like the handwriting expert to explain to us in the court what he meant by this wording”, said the lawyer.

Roman Stici believes it is very important that this case be decided fairly.

“This is a precedent-setting case. We have hundreds of single elderly people. Their relatives are overseas, and not always around. How many ill lonely people can become victims of this doctor, if for three years after the Ryabtseva tragedy he goes unpunished and takes ownership of the apartment in the capital city? This cannot be allowed to happen," stated lawyer Stici.
