HORUS SAYS AUTHORITIES’ ACTIONS WITH REGARD TO WORKS AT TERMOELECTRICA MAY THREATEN MOLDOVA WITH IMAGE LOSSES

Actions of the authorities regarding the contract of repair works at the state enterprise Termoelectrica may threaten Moldova with image losses in the eyes of development partners.

Mihai Godea, director of the Horus Development Department, said at a press conference at the INFOTAG agency on Friday that the company found itself in a strange situation after it won the tender and signed the contract to modernize two power units of the Chisinau CHPP.

Thus, he stated that after the contract was signed on April 8, government representatives announced they were going to cancel the results of the tender. But the company did not receive any official decisions; in fact, the contract is still in effect.

"The problem is that members of the government are speaking out about the problem in the press. We learned from the media that the issue of repair work will be discussed at a meeting of the Supreme Security Council (SSC). Right now, the original of the contract is in the SSC (Presidential Administration - I.), and we cannot get a guarantee of the contract (a necessary document to begin the work - I.), because the original is required by the bank. We are not interested in political struggles. We want our relations with the authorities to remain purely legal and economic", Godea stressed.

At the same time, he added that Horus is acting in line with the regulations and the rules of the World Bank (which provided a 13 million euros loan for the works) and he urged the authorities to do the same, because their present actions would taint Moldova's image.
