FRANCE SUPPORTS MOLDOVA'S EFFORTS TO MODERNIZE COUNTRY AND IMPLEMENT REFORMS - AMBASSADOR PAUL GRAHAM

FRANCE SUPPORTS MOLDOVA

France supports Moldova's efforts to modernize the country and implement reforms in various fields. This was stated on Thursday at a press conference at the INFOTAG agency by French Ambassador to Chisinau Paul Graham.

He reminded that in order to provide more efficient and effective assistance, the French Development Agency (AFD) opened an office in Chisinau this February.

"The agency will actively participate in the implementation of various projects. Priority directions of cooperation were determined. These are environment protection, increase of forest areas, rational use of water resources, increase of energy efficiency, as well as development of infrastructure, support of education, health and social sphere", the diplomat stressed.

At the same time, he welcomed Moldova's application for membership of the European Union (EU), stressing that France will support the implementation of reforms aimed at modernization in line with EU standards.

"We are happy that Moldova is coping with many challenges. We are open for cooperation and we will also provide assistance in the implementation of the justice reform, building a state based on the rule of law, protection of human rights and decentralization," Paul Graham assured.

According to the official, France annually funds 3-4 important projects in Moldova, the participants of which are selected in a transparent way, on a competitive basis, and taking into account the development of cooperation between the regions.
