CITIZENS DEMAND FROM PROKURATURA TO BRING HISTORIANS TO STAND RESPONSIBILITY
19.03.2012
Two citizens of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Koshelev and Dmitrii Shevchenko, have officially applied to the Prosecutor General’s Office demanding to sue in court those historians who, in their textbooks of history, disseminate hatred and foster national strife among Moldova citizens.
The applicants’ lawyer Roman Aronov stated at a news conference in Infotag today that the appeal to the Prosecutor General’s Office was caused by the textbooks and scientific works by historians Ion Negrei, Gheorghe Cojocaru, Ion Varta, Demir Dragnev, Nicolae Enciu, Ion Siscan, Anatol Petrencu “who ignored and distorted the historic truth”.
The lawyer said, “These historians advocate inter-ethnic strife, humiliate the national dignity of ethnic minorities. Take page 177 in “The History of the Romanians. Modern Epoch”, a textbook for the 9th form in school issued in Chisinau in 2002. Its authors Ion Varta and Demir Dragnev quoted an I. Loginov as saying that “those Poles, Greeks, Armenians, Jewish people are just worthless nonentities, who have polluted Chisinau”, and added that such kind of examples are many.
The lawyer requested the Prosecutor General’s Office to initial a criminal litigation against the historians and to notify him, which concrete actions the Office will undertake.
Igor Koshelev maintains that such history textbooks ought to be revoked from schools and their authors should be deprived of their scientific degrees.
“In Romania, for instance, the fomentation of national strife is punished with imprisonments of up to 6 years, and in France and other countries – up to 10 years”, said Koshelev.
