16.11.2006 NEWS CONFERENCE IN INFOTAG: POPULATION OF MOLDOVA IS UNAWARE OF SOCIAL DEMOCRACY – DIAKOV

Chisinau, November 16 (Infotag). The Moldovan population is insufficiently informed about social-democratic values, the Democratic Party of Moldova presumes, and calls to a wider propaganda of these values here.

DP Chairman MP Dumitru Diakov remarked at a news conference in Infotag today, “Many here know about communism. As for social democracy, practically nothing has ever been told about it in Moldova”.

He said, “The representatives of political formations sharing Social Democratic ideas should meet more often, and unite efforts for solving vital problems. Exactly to this end Chisinau has invited an international conference on the role of social democracy in a Europe of tomorrow, to be held on November 18-19 here. Invitations to attend it have been sent to politicians from Germany, France, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Great Britain, Austria, and Sweden”.

The forum will discuss issues of economic and social policies, employment, etc., and the European countries will share their experience with Moldova, Diakov said.

In conclusion, he stressed that the ideology of Marxism-Leninism is not topical in developed countries, and that social democracy came to replace it.
