MOLDOVAN FARMERS DEMAND PUBLIC CONSULTATIONS ON THE DRAFT LAW ON AGRICULTURAL CHAMBERS

29 april, 2024

The Forța Fermierilor association demands public consultations in Parliament on the draft law on the organization and functioning of agricultural chambers, which was adopted last week in the first reading. As INFOTAG reports, otherwise, the farmers are threatening with new protests.

“We draw attention to the fact that the document was adopted in the first reading contrary to the opinion of the legal department of the Parliament. The insistence with which they want to approve this draft make us believe that they want to legally subjugate the associative environment in the agricultural sector at all costs. Farmers' associations, especially sectoral associations, have proven their effectiveness and role in the development of agriculture for the benefit of small and medium farmers, and now the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry intends to subjugate all farmers' organizations through these agricultural chambers,” the farmers believe.

According to the association, the ministry is pushing for farmers who refuse membership of the agricultural chambers to be ineligible for subsidies.

“This bill is unconstitutional and anti-democratic, aimed at establishing political control over one of the most influential social groups - farmers - and our organization will oppose its adoption by all possible legal means,” the association said, threatening with more protests.
