Chisinau, December 4 (Infotag). The results of the parallel counting of votes on the voting at the Bashkan elections in Gagauzia do not virtually differ from official data of the Central Election Commission of the autonomy. The observers of the League for Human Rights Protection in Moldova (LADOM) made the parallel counting.

LADOM Chairman Paul Strutzescu said at a press conference on Monday in Infotag that Mihail Formuzal obtained 33.99% votes, Nicolai Dudoglo – 31.42%, Georgii Tabunscic – 23.96% and Alexandr Stoianoglo – 10.62%.

“According to our data, 61.5% of the voters, including 8.4% on the additional slates, participated in the elections. On the whole, 140 LADOM observers did not reveal any serious violations which could influence the results of the elections”, Struzescu said.

Executive Director of the Association for Active Democracy (ADEPT) Igor Botan said on the whole the elections in Gagauzia can be considered just and correct.

“The high participation level of the voters can also be considered success. Only 42% of the voters participated in the previous elections of the Bashkan”, Botan said.

In his opinion, the pass over of independent candidates of Formuzal and Dudoglo can also be estimated as success of democracy.

“The fact that Tabunscic, who was widely supported by the Communist Party, did not pass over to the second tour means that sympathies of the electorate changed», the expert consider.

Executive Director of the Association of Independent Press Petru Macovei, whose organization carried out the monitoring of ten national and local mass media, s that the mass media did not pass the examination the correct and just elucidation of the election campaign.

ADEPT, LADOM and API implemented their monitoring of the elections in the frame of }Free and Correct Elections of the Gagauz Bashkan, which is being implemented from October 2006 to January 2007 with the financial support on the part of the Eurasia Fund to Moldova.
