29.10.2007 TRANSNISTRIAN REFUGEES APPEAL TO ЕСHR AGAINST GOVERNMENTS OF MOLDOVA AND RUSSIA

Chisinau, October 29 (Infotag). The Transnistrian refugees have appealed to the ЕСHR against the Governments of Moldova and Russia. They consider that their rights as forced migrants were violated.

Chairman of the Movement of Transnistrian Refugees Anatolie Bizgu said at a press conference in Infotag on Monday that 92 persons signed the appeal.

“The Moldovan Government does not fulfill its promises to provide us with housing and the Russian Government facilitated the preservation of the Tiraspol regime, because of which we are forced to leave our familiar spots”, he considers.

He affirms that the construction of a multi-storeyed block of apartments in the Ginta Latinг Street in Chisinau has not been completed until the present.

“The municipality ordered to allocate 7 million lei for us to complete the construction, but it transferred only 5 million lei, that is why we cannot move into it. Construction works on the plot, allocated for the construction of the second house in the Milescu Spataru Street, has not been started for the time being. But the authorities worked out an action plan, according to which the refugees from Transnistria had to be provided with dwelling space before 2007”, the movement Chairman underlined.

He said that on November 1, the refugees will picket the munipcipality building.

“We regret that we have to communicate with Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca by means of press conferences. Despite the fact that we requested the Mayor’s office repeatedly to fulfill the given promises, we have not received any answer”, Bizgu remarked.

The Movement of Transnistrian Refugees sent their declaration to the OSCE Mission to Moldova, the Council of Europe, the EU, foreign Embassies, where it requests them to react to the violation of the refugees’ rights and to call upon the authorities for observing strictly international norms in respect of forced migrants from Transnistria.
