MOLDOVAN PATRIOTS BLAME UNIONISTS FOR BREACHING LAW

The local patriotic organizations of Femida [Themis] and “We are Moldovans, We Speak Moldovan” are drawing the Moldovan authorities’ attention to the unionists [adherents to the idea of Unirea – Moldova’s unification with Romania] who “overtly violate the laws of the Republic of Moldova”.

Femida activist Alina Palii stated at a news conference at Infotag today that pro-Romania organizations have been unfolding unprecedented Unirea activities here lately.

“Besides the legionary Noua Dreapta [New Truth] National Christian Movement, we have lately come to have a new Unirea force – a movement calling itself “The Young of Moldova”. It has not been registered with the Ministry of Justice as the law demands, but nevertheless actively stages various street actions and broadcasting its audio and video clips over radio stations and television channels. These clips do not advocate unification with Romania straightforward, but they contain camouflaged advertising in favor of it. This is but undermining of the statehood of Moldova, but our relevant official agencies don’t care – neither the Prosecutor General’s Office nor the Audiovisual Coordinating Council [ACC], nobody”, said Palii.

She wondered, “How may an unregistered organization work in the country, placing its anti-state clips in the mass media? Who finances this very expensive advertising? Who has concluded contracts with radio and television?”

Activist Vasile Postolache said that later on Wednesday the organizations will file with the Prosecutor General’s Office a request to investigate the activities of the “The Young of Moldova” organization.

Ion Muntean of the “We are Moldovans, We Speak Moldovan” organization believes that the nation’s chief problem is that the Republic of Moldova is governed by authorities who are “agents of influence of the neighbor state”.

“Currently, we are experiencing a third Romanian occupation of Moldova. The first was in 1918-1940, the second one – in 1941-1944. And since 1989, we have been in, so far, the ideological phase of a third occupation of Moldova by Romania. What is its purport? We – through our mercenary politicians – are being persuaded that the language we speak is Romanian, not Moldovan, and that, accordingly, the residents of this republic are Romanians, not Moldovans. If so, why should there be two Romanian states? To correct this ‘mistake’, definitely shady personalities and numerous experts, financed from behind the Prut River, are activating their work here”, believes Muntean.

The second problem of the Moldovans and other ethnic minorities is the absence of a national idea, he believes.

“We haven’t shaped such idea even over 25 years of the country’s independence. Meanwhile, we all need such idea like we need air to breathe, an idea that would unite all social and ethnic groups in Moldova. In a normal country, this could be an idea of economy development and improving the welfare of every family. I repeat, in a normal country, but not in the Republic of Moldova of today being torn apart by artificial, invented controversies generated by politicians and parties who find again and again all possible pretexts to place people at loggerheads to thus prevent them from getting united for the sake of saving Moldova as an independent state – as a land which 99% Moldovans regard to be their Motherland”, said Muntean.
