ON INTERNATIONAL CHERNOBYL DISASTER REMEMBRANCE DAY, PRESIDENT MAIA SANDU WARNED OF DANGER OF NUCLEAR CATASTROPHE

On the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Chernobyl, President Maia Sandu warned of the danger of nuclear catastrophe. She noted that April 26 marks the 38th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The head of state expressed gratitude to the Moldovan citizens who took part in the liquidation of the consequences of one of the most devastating man-made disasters of the XX century.

According to her, "the authorities are constantly increasing assistance to the participants of the liquidation of the accident consequences, and by the end of this year, 80 families of the participants will receive free apartments from the state."

"The consequences of the Chernobyl disaster serve as an example of the dangers of nuclear power and a reminder of the importance of international cooperation for the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology. Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine has revived the danger of nuclear catastrophe. The international community cannot accept that. That is why we need stricter nuclear safety rules and more effective cooperation in this field," Maia Sandu said.

Out of more than 3500 participants of liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe in Moldova, 1733 people are still alive, of whom 1604 received different disability groups.
