FRANCE AND GERMANY TO HELP REVIVE MOLDOVAN FILM INDUSTRY Embassies of France and Germany will help Moldova revive the national film industry by means of implementing a project “Back to Moldova-Film” together with the Moldovan Culture Ministry and the Moldova Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts.

 

Pascal Vagogne, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Moldova said during news conference at Infotag that after meeting Moldovan Minister of Culture Monica Babuc, he found out about her priorities for the nearest future, among which the revival and development of the Moldovan film industry.

 

He said he also visited the film studio Moldova-Film and this is when the decision of participating in the reviving and development of the Moldovan film industry was taken.

 

Ambassador Vagogne said that the initiative of implementing the project “Back to Moldova-Film” came from the Culture Ministry and is being implemented with the financial assistance of the French-German Cultural Funding.

 

The Ambassador expressed hope that the project will give the opportunity to tell about the Moldovan film industry abroad and attract foreign partners’ attention to Moldova.

 

Film Director Mihai Tarna said at the press conference that this is an ambitious project that will give students the opportunity to learn filmmaking.

 

“A short film will be shot on the basis of a scenario written by students. For this, a casting will be conducted on selecting students-script writers and actors and the preparing for the film shooting”, said the director.

 

He also said that professionals will work with students, the film will be shot at the equipment brought from abroad, while the premier of the movie will take place in Moldova, after which it will be screened in other European countries.

 

The executive director of the project Judith Naudet said that the exact cost of the project is not known yet as the French-German Cultural Funding allocated 12 thousand euros, embassies of the two countries – 5 thousand euros each, also there will be a contribution from Culture Ministry of Moldova, while the Moldova-Film can provide technical assistance.

 

According to her, the project will last a month: two weeks – selection of young script writers, one week – preparing for shooting and Moldovan actors casting and the very filming will take one week. After that the film editing will last two weeks, while the premiere will take place in October.

 

The short film will be about Moldova, it will last around 15 minutes. The exact theme and more details about the shooting will be announced at the next press conference, Judith Naudet said.

 

Filmmaker Vlad Druc said that the project “Back to Moldova-Film” will allow telling about and changing the situation in the film industry.

 

“Moldova has a little experience of participating in such projects, as earlier, there was joint work with Polish colleagues, however this is not enough and we need more projects in filmmaking”, said Druc.
