HORUS WARNS THAT IF REPAIR WORKS ARE NOT FULFILLED IN TIME, CHISINAU MAY REMAIN WITHOUT HEATING IN WINTER

A considerable part of Chisinau risks to remain without centralized heating in winter if the repair works at TransElectrica fail to be completed in time, maintain the representatives of the Horus Company that is responsible for the overhaul of a turbine and of generator #3 at the country’s largest heating/electric power station [CET] #2 in the capital – the CET-2 Chisinau.

Horus Director Mihai Godea said at a news conference held in Infotag on Tuesday that the repair works began on June 29 on the basis of a contract signed on June 27 as a result of direct negotiations. According to him, the works are going on according to the schedule and should be completed by October 1.

However, he said, a competitor that took part in the tender challenged the contract with the National Agency for Dispute Resolution. The challenge will be considered on July 15. According to Godea, the termination of the contract would be absurd, but “if this happens, then those involved should take full responsibility for consequences”.

“If the work is not completed in time, then most of Chisinau will risk being left without heating”, Godea stressed.

According to him, if TermoElectrica fails to meet the energy demand, then the only option left will be the Moldavskaya power plant [in Transnistria, the Republic of Moldova’s largest energy producer], “which will lead to yet  greater profits for Russians”, because Moldavskaya is owned by the Russian company Inter RAO EES.
