DP URGING GOVERNMENT TO ARREST PRICES

DP URGING GOVERNMENT TO ARREST PRICES

Chisinau.   The Government must undertake urgent measures to somehow arrest the continuing price growth, which the populace just cannot manage any further, maintains the Democratic Party leadership.

DP Chairman MP Dumitru Diakov told a news conference in Infotag today that his party is ready to offer a helping hand to tackle the problem. In particular, the Democrats are ready to organize a roundtable conference of scientists, state officials, parliamentarians and the civil society so as to work out an efficient solution by joint effort.

“This problem concerns the entire Moldovan society. Maybe, our Government is too busy to tackle the price problem. Therefore, we should promote solution of the problem. I presume that some political parties may well use the price-growth and drought problems for their selfish pre-election speculations. The more so, measures need to be taken – now”, Dumitru Diakov said.

One of his party comrades, former minister of agriculture Valeriu Bulgari said that, at the first glance, the growing prices should be a pleasant news for local peasants, as they can sell their products better. But this inevitably triggers inflation, which, in turn, will lead to higher rates of bank credits, so credits will become less accessible to peasants.

Bulgari presumes foreign investments could improve the situation in the Moldovan agriculture, but as long as foreigners are prohibited to buy farmlands in Moldova, they will not be particularly rushing to this republic.

Former minister of justice Ion Paduraru stated that starting from 2001 [when the Communist Party came into power here], he had not seen any clear agricultural policy waged by the State, and such uncertainty only further complicates the situation in the essential-most sector of the Moldovan national economy.
