LIBERALS COMPLAIN OF THREATS
Chisinau. Young members of the Liberal Party of Moldova (LPM), who helped the flood victims last weekend, assert that they were threatened by representatives of the Drapcauti Mayor’s office, Head of the Briceni raion and the law and order authorities.
LP Chairman Mihai Ghimpu said at a press conference in Infotag on Monday that a group of Liberals went to the Drepcauti village to render assistance to the flood victims, but in the Drepcauti Mayor’s Office they were told that the situation is under control and there is no need in their assistance.
‘The youths decided that it is high time to help villagers to remove water from their houses. Soon the Briceni raion Chairman, who is a member of the Communist Party like the Mayor, arrived and told us that we have nothing to do in the village, the policemen told us the same. Liberals did their business up to the end and people thanked them for their help. It is good that the Mayor of the Criva village, though he was also Communist, was glad at the Liberals’ assistance”, Ghimpu said.
He said that he will sacrifice 100 thousand lei from his personal incomes to the flood victims from the villages of Criva and Drepcauti.
“We have acquired three pumps, which can pump up to 30 tons of water an hour. Two pumps were left in Criva and Drepcauti and we shall take one to Lipcani,” Ghimpu said.
He called upon business people and gastarbeiters to sacrifice money and material values to people, who suffered from the inundation.
In the Drepcauti village 150 houses suffered from the flood, in Criva - 60. The Government promised to people, who were left roofless, to build new houses for them within three months.
