25.11.2005 DOZENS OF MOLDOVAN LOCALITIES DE-ENERGIZED DUE TO ICING

Chisinau, November 25 (Infotag). A powerful southeastern cyclone brought abundant precipitations on Moldova last night. With an air temperature at around the freezing point, this led to massive icing of electric lines and slippery roads, the Ministry of the Interior’s Department of Emergencies reported this morning.

In the result of numerous disruptures of wires, dozens of populated areas remained without electricity. In the Rezina raion, for instance, there is presently no power supply in over 10 villages. In Ialoveni, the supply was restored by Friday morning.

Traffic police has not registered any major accident last night, but the Chisinau Emergency Hospital has reported several injuries and broken limbs with citizens who fell down in icy streets this early morning.

The Chisinau Weather Center says this southeastern cyclone has brought warm air and heavy rain to this republic, so ice on wires and roads has practically melted by now. The rain will stop soon, and the weekend is going to be quite warm, with air temperatures of 5-8 degrees above freezing.
