25.01.2006 NEW MOVEMENT SEEKS TO GET CONSOLIDATED IN MOLDOVA

Chisinau, January 25 (Infotag). The “European Action” Movement, a socio-political organization founded only last Saturday, is resolutely going to become a serious force on the Moldovan political arena.

The head of the EA initiative group Alexei Petrenco, Dr. Hist., told a news conference in Infotag today that the new organization, uniting some 60 members so far, abides overwhelmingly by the liberal doctrine.

He said, “After the March 2005 parliamentary elections, the Republic of Moldova has remained in fact without serious oppositional forces. Voters got disappointed, and seem to have lost hope for a genuine democracy. We believe we will manage to convince our compatriots that we will wage struggle against the [ruling] Communist Party, criticize it, and will work to ensure the observance of human rights and freedoms in Moldova”.

In his words, the European Action will work for a triumph of a genuine democracy in this republic, for economic freedom, withdrawal of Russian troops and arsenals from Transnistria, and for waging a policy of good neighborly relations.

The new movement is preparing to take part in the 2007 local elections and the 2009 parliamentary elections, in a conviction it has “all chances” to become a viable political force.
