06.02.2006 GEMENII SHAREHOLDERS SEEK JUSTICE AND BACKING

Chisinau, February 6 (Infotag). A group of shareholders owing 58.1% in Gemenii have long been demanding from the Moldovan authorities to have a closer and more impartial look on the problems developing around this trade center – one of the biggest in Moldova.

Today, Ilie Rotaru – a Gemenii shareholder and the master of the private I.Rotaru Lawyers’ Bureau in whose management are the said majority parcel and, accordingly, the huge super market situated in the Chisinau central square – convened a news conference in Infotag. He stated that despite several court disputes, all of which were won by the parcel holders, they are strangely deprived of the right to officially register Gemenii ownership right.

“We have submitted to the National Agency for Cadastre and Land Relations all necessary documents proving that we are the holders of the said shares. However, we are denied registration under the pretext that the Agency has, allegedly, an order from Supreme Security Council Secretary Ion Morei”, said Ilie Rotaru.

He believes, however, that the problem is different: simply, a very high-ranked Ukrainian official, namely ex-Secretary of the Ukraine’s National Security Council Peter Poroshenko, is claiming a fat peace of the Gemenii pie.

Rotaru said, “Nobody can tell the true origin of his claims. Nevertheless, Poroshenko’s representative in Moldova Vitalie Ciofu is saying that the entire affair has a political coloring, and if only Gemenii comes to be owned by Poroshenko, he will help resolve the Transnistria conflict”.

Ilie Rotaru said he had many a time tried to have a meeting with Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin to discuss the problem, but each time he was denied access to the head of state.

“I can say with confidence the President is unaware about what is happening around this big trade complex. It would be a disgrace if such a prominent enterprise, situated in the very heart of Chisinau, would become the property of a personality like Poroshenko. We demand to set up a state commission to tackle this dispute”, stated Rotaru.

In his words, since 2004 when he came to head Gemenii, the company has repaid 7 million lei in taxes to the State, and invested 12 million lei in repair of the big building. Dividends are waiting on a banking account, but their owners will only be permitted to get them upon registering their ownership rights.
