16.10.2006 WAR VETS DEMAND INTERIOR MINISTER TO SUSPEND DUTIES FOR INVESTIGATION PERIOD

16.10.2006 WAR VETS DEMAND INTERIOR MINISTER TO SUSPEND DUTIES FOR INVESTIGATION PERIOD Chisinau, October 16 (Infotag). The Chisinau city organization of the Moldovan National Union of Veterans of the War for Independence [Transnistrian armed conflict] has demanded that Minister of the Interior Lt. Gen. Gheorghe Papuc ought to tender resignation for the period of investigation into the case of the attempted murder of police major Constantin Domnisor. Organization chairman Mihai Tomacinschi reminded a news conference in Infotag today of the incident that took place last Monday night, when a grenade was thrown into the window of Domnisor’s apartment. The mayor stated to the press last week he had suspected Papuc of having a direct relation to the explosion incident, because earlier the Minister had threatened to revenge the officer for his reluctance to abdicate from the State-provided new apartment. The veterans welcomed the news that the General Prosecutor's Office had started proceedings into this case. They expressed hope the investigation will be conducted fairly. They hope the minister should resign for the investigation time. “If the investigation is dragged and Papuc keeps on intimidating the Domnisors’, we reserve the right to resort to actions of protest”, the organization wrote in its statement made public at the news conference.
