24.10.2006 LIBERAL PARTY AGAINST UNSCRUPULOUS UNIFICATION

Chisinau, October 24 (Infotag). The Liberal Party of Moldova does not feel like uniting with such liberal formations that include personalities who used to be employed by “occupational Soviet structures”, who collaborated with them, or who were part to the alliance with the ruling Moldovan Communist Party, LP leader Mihai Ghimpu stated at a news conference held in Infotag today.

As has already been reported by Infotag, some time ago the Social Liberal Party (SLP) stood up with a proposal of unification of all liberal forces in Moldova, and that idea was backed by MPs Vitalia Pavlicenco and Anatol Taranu expelled from the parliamentary Moldova Noastra Alliance shortly before that. [In the spring of 2005, SLP parliamentarians voted for re-electing Communist Party leader Vladimir Voronin as President of Moldova for another term of office. As for Pavlicenco, she demanded in parliament earlier this month that the Information and Security Service must publish her secret dossier, if it only exists, and to thus put an end to media speculations that she had, allegedly, collaborated with the Soviet KGB.]

Liberal Party Deputy Chairman Dorin Chirtoaca pointed out that a growing number of politicians have lately been showing interest to the liberal idea.

He said, “The political structure – which some people are seeking to impose from the position of superiority, accompanied with numerous statements but without a sincere wish to commence a dialog, with distortions of the reality and with speculations about the unification idea which implies the existence of only one liberal party – is a proof that no serious good intentions exist in what pertains to the consolidation of the liberal direction. The Liberal Party rejects such approach which can give nothing good to the liberal movement in Moldova”.

He stressed the Liberal Party is convinced that such unification has to be based on the principle of sincerity, correct and polite behaviour, participation in the promotion of a new political class, open and direct communication with an emphasis to be placed on the essence of the Program that should be elaborated to help resolve citizens’ problems.

Chirtoaca stated, “The Liberal Party shall continue building an alternative to the present authorities and the present political class, remaining open and inviting all those who pursue one and the same objective with us”.
