09.11.2006 INTERNATIONAL EXPERTS CONSIDER MOLDOVA MUST PAY MORE ATTENTION TO COPYRIGHT

Chisinau, November 9 (Infotag). The experts of the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers consider that the Moldovan legislation is rather perfect, but it is observed unsatisfactorily. It was said in Infotag at a press conference, devoted to the just-concluded seminar on copyright and broadcasting right in Chisinau.

Representative of the World Intellectual Property Organization Victor Lopez said that Moldova is at the beginning of introducing Law on copyright and other closely related rights.

According to him, Moldova’s striving for the European Union will make it act quicker in this line to meet the European standards. He implied talks and concluding license agreements with TV and radio broadcasting organizations.

In experts’ opinion, in the first place, it is necessary to check the availability of pirate compact discs in Moldova, as well as the possibility to record non-licensed music and films from the Internet.

Director General of the National Industrial Property Agency (AGEPI) Stefan Novac found it difficult to assess the level of pirate products in Moldova.

“There is a specialized association on managing copyright and other related rights and in the nearest time it will begin concluding licensing contracts with TV and radio channels”, Novac said.
