21.11.2006 SDPM TO RUN 2007 LOCAL ELECTIONS ALL BY ITSELF

Chisinau, November 21 (Infotag). The Social Democratic Party of Moldova will partake in the spring 2007 local elections as an independent runner, its Chairman Eduard Musuc stated at a news conference in Infotag today.

He said, this decision was voted for at the last Saturday’s meeting of the SDPM National Board. The forum elected Loreta Handrabura as National Board Chairwoman, and Sergiu Caraman, Victor Ciobanu and Eugen Roscovan – as Deputy Chairs.

Musuc said that SDPM candidacies for mayors and local governance council members, aka the Councilors, and for Chisinau Mayor have not yet been defined, “but our team is going to be strong, and our program – clear-cut and consistent, and, we hope, will earn voters’ support”.

He highlighted the SDPM membership growth taking place lately, but refrained from relating this to the ongoing persecution of the SDPM leadership or to his recent arrest.

“People are sick and tired of constant feuds between political parties and their leaders. The citizenry waits for solution of their everyday problems. We do not fight against the Communists. We struggle against poverty, lawlessness, and corruption. That’s exactly what the citizens wait for”, said Eduard Musuc.
