07.02.2007 PARLIAMENTARIAN VLADIMIR FILAT TO BE CANDIDATE FOR CHISINAU MAYOR POST

Chisinau, February 7 (Infotag). Vice-Chairman of the Democratic Party of Moldova Vladimir Filat will participate in the elections for the Chisinau Mayor post.

DPM Leader Dumitru Diacov said at a press conference in Infotag on Wednesday that Filat’s candidature is the most appropriate, as he worked in many state institutions, he possesses good knowledge and he is a businessman.

“We think that he will be an excellent manager of the capital city and he has good chances to win the elections, as younger candidates do not have a sufficient experience”, Diacov said.

According to him, the Democratic Party of Moldova is open for talks with other political entities, which will wish to support the candidature of Filat.

Filat declared his consent to participate in the elections, as he is in the position to propose solutions on the most aching problems to the Chisinau citizens.

The DPM members remarked that during ten years they participated in six parliamentary and local election campaigns.

Vladimir Filat was born on May 6, 1969. He is a Lawyer. In 1998-1999 he was the Director of the Privatization Department and from March to November 1999 he was a state minister. Since 2000 he is the DPM Deputy Chairman, in 2005 he was elected to the Parliament on the Party slate. Filat has a business in Romania.

Up to the present only the Liberal Party of Moldova put forward its candidate for the Chisinau Mayor post – Deputy Chairman Dorin Chirtoaca.
