21.02.2007 LIBERAL PARTY CALLS UPON MOLDOVAN CITIZENS TO CELEBRATE THE DAY OF LOVERS –“DRAGOBETELE” ON FEBRUARY 24

Chisinau, February 21 (Infotag). The youth organization of the Liberal Party of Moldova (LPM) has called upon Moldovan citizens to celebrate the Day of Lovers on February 24.

Its Chairman Sergiu Boghean said at a press conference on Wednesday that the youth does not oppose celebrating the Day of Lovers on February 14, as in the entire world.

“However, according to the Romanian traditions, this Day – “Dragobetele is celebrated on February 24. This tradition is inherited from the Dacians”, he considers.

According to Boghean, all the popular beliefs say that those, who celebrate the “Dragobetele”, will not be ill during the entire year.

“According to the tradition, the youths put on their best clothes on this day, they met and went to the wood to pick up snowdrops, and, if the weather allowed, they conducted a gathering there, he reminded.

The leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu called upon Moldovan citizens to revive the old traditions.

“We call upon you to love, as love is the highest power, LP Leader said.

On February 24 the girls must collect some snow and melt it in a vessel. Then they must wash themselves with this water that will make them beautiful and happy in love.
