14.03.2007 NLP SEEKS TO SPLIT UP ROMANIA, MOLDOVAN LIBERALS CLAIM

Chisinau, March 14 (Infotag). By its initiative to set up an Inter-State Union of Moldova and Romania, the National Liberal Party of Moldova [headed by MP Vitalia Pavlicenco] is pursuing the objective of disintegrating Romania, Liberal Party leader Mihai Ghimpu stated at a news conference in Infotag today.

He believes that although the NLP has declared itself a Right force, it is actually working on Russia’s side, “because the NLP is thus renouncing the unitary character of the Romanian State. Such a policy has always been and continues to be in Russia’s interests, and the occupation of Bessarabia in 1940 is a proof to this. The NLP’s initiative resembles the notorious memoranda on federalization of Moldova of 1997 and 2003”.

Ghimpu believes the ruling Communist Party’s and NLP’s attacks against Romania have been synchronized, “because these two parties have one and the same customer – Russia. We do not know if the MCP and the NLP coordinate their actions, but Moscow has secret agents all over the world, and the agents do not know each other, though some of them went to one and the same school class”.

Ghimpu emphasized his statements were not aimed at discrediting the NLP on the local election’s eve, “because we are not afraid of Vitalia Pavlicenco’s candidature for Chisinau Mayor. The thing is, our candidate Dorin Chirtoaca is much better, and he has higher chances to win the election”.

Mihai Ghimpu reaffirmed the Liberal Party will stand for the 2007 local election as an independent political force.

“Yes Moldovan Liberal formations wish to back one common candidate at the 2007 elections. However, we have no trust in the NLP because its leaders undermined and ruined many political organizations in the past. Currently, I think, their objective is to annihilate the Liberal Party and discredit its candidate, Dorin Chirtoaca”, said Mihai Ghimpu.

The Liberal Party called upon the country’s Communist leadership to urgently open Romanian consular offices in Balti and Cahul, and demanded from the Government of Romania to speed up the granting of the Romanian citizenship to the residents of Moldova.
