13.04.2007 SLP CONSIDERS AUTHORITIES WANT TO FORCE IT OUT FROM ELECTION RACE

Chisinau, April 13 (Infotag). The Social Liberal Party (SLP) estimated a statement by the Ministry of Justice that the SLP has no legal Chairman from 2005, as an attempt to exclude the party from the election race or at least to create problems for the party.

Its Chairman Oleg Serebrean expressed his indignation on Friday at a press conference in the connection with the fact that, according to the data by the Ministry of Justice, he is not the Party leader.

“It is a complete absurdity, an order of the presidential team, which tries to oust certain parties from the election campaign and to demonstrate once again, who rules in the state”, he said.

According to Serebrean, when he asked the Ministry of Justice to give explanations, it was told to him that 2005 no congress, which elected him as the party Chairman, took place.

“It is not true. The congress took place in July 2005 and the respective documents were submitted to the ministry. It is strange that we have these documents with a seal and signature and there are no such documents in the ministry”, SLP leader said.

He affirms that the party’s situation is foolish, they refuse to register its candidates, as the Chairman’s signature is allegedly invalid.

Serebrean promised to meet representatives of the Council of Europe and the OSCE to Moldova and to request the world community to conduct the monitoring of the election campaign, which seems correct and just only at the first glance.

He said, if the Ministry of Justice does not apologize to the SLP and does not confirm Serebrean’s legal election as the Party Chairman until April 18, the party will appeal to the court.

The SLP proposed its Vice-Chairman Cornel Ciurea for the post of the Chisinau Mayor.
