CHISINAU CITIZENS DISLIKE SITUATION IN CAPITAL AND ARE ANGRY AT PRIMARIA…   Chisinau citizens are on the whole discontented with the current state of things in the capital city and with the inefficiency of the Chisinau Primaria [city government] over last 4 years. Such are the findings of an opinion poll called “Chisinau Citizens’ Socio-Political Preferences before June 14, 2015 Local Elections”, carried out by the Moldovan Association of Sociologists and Demographers and presented at a news conference at Infotag on Wednesday.

 

Association Deputy Chairman Andrei Dumbraveanu said at the presentation that the poll was carried out on May 10 to 16 among 1,045 adult citizens of Chisinau with the valuable assistance provided by volunteers – students from two local universities. The pollsters are saying that error should not exceed ±2.6%.

 

According to the research, 32.9% respondents said that last 4 years, life in the city has not practically changed, 28% said that life has become a little worse, 15.9% – a little better, 15% – much worse, and 4.5% – much better.

 

Asked if incumbent Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca is respected by citizens, 34.5% replied positively, 41.1% – negatively, and 24.1% were uncertain. Only a quarter of interviewed citizens said they respected the Primaria, 42.7% said they did not respect, and 32.2% were uncertain.

 

21.7% citizens think the city authorities worked badly last 4 years, 19.7% have a different opinion, 36.8% said “neither good nor bad”, 14% – very bad, 3.9% – very well, and 3.9% failed to say anything concretely. And asked if the local authorities manage with their everyday duties, 60.1% stated “No”.

 

According to the poll findings, 49.3% respondents are sure that the Chisinau Primaria has been plagued with corruption, and 28.1% don't think so.

 

Only less than 30% citizens believe that they are well-informed about Primaria’s activities, 55.5% said – informed a little, and 11.7% have no idea at all.

 

… BUT NEVERTHELESS APPEAR TO FEEL MORE LIKE VOTING FOR CHIRTOACA

 

If local elections were held in Chisinau next Sunday, victory would be won by the incumbent mayor, First Deputy Chairperson of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoaca, as per the said opinion poll presented in Infotag by the Moldovan Association of Sociologists and Demographers on Wednesday.

 

Association Chairman Victor Mocanu said that candidate Dorin Chirtoaca would poll 20.7%, Zinaida Grechanaya of the Party of Socialists – 17.8%, Serafim Urechean of the Liberal Democratic Party – 6.4%, Oazu Nantoi of the “European People’s Platform of Moldova (EPPM) – Iurie Leanca” – 4.1%, Ilian Casu of the Partidul Nostru [Our Party] – 3.5%, Monica Babuc of the Democratic Party – 3.3%, Vasile Chirtoca of the Communist Party – 2.3%, Ion Dron – 2.2%, Oleg Brega – 1.5%, and all the rest of 17 candidates – less than 1%.

 

According to the poll findings, citizens’ biggest trust is also in Dorin Chirtoaca – 36.1%, followed by Zinaida Grechanaya with 33.6%, Oazu Nantoi – 27%, Serafim Urechean – 24.2%, Monica Babuc – 23.5%, Oleg Brega – 22.6%, Ilian Casu – 22%, Ion Dron – 21.1%, Vasile Chirtoca – 18.4%, and Mihai Carlig – 11.3%.

 

Asked which political parties Chisinau citizens are ready to vote for, 24.6% interviewed people said – for the Party of Socialists, 18.4% – for the Liberal Party, 8.1% – for the Liberal Democratic Party, 7.9% – for the Communist Party, 6.7% – for “European People’s Platform of Moldova (EPPM) – Iurie Leanca”, 6.3% – for the Democratic Party, and 5.5% – for Our Party.

 

Mocanu said that in one week’s time, the Association will cary out one more opinion poll, so it will be possible to compare citizens’ political preferences as the elections approach
