KAZAKHSTAN RULING PARTY HAS ENOUGH PARLIAMENTARY MANDATES FOR NOMINATION OF PRIME MINISTERIAL CANDIDATE

The Amanat party, which won at the March 19 Kazakhstan parliamentary election, has enough parliamentary mandates  (53.9%) for an independent nomination a candidacy for the prime ministerial post and for forming a government, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Moldova Mr. Almat Aidarbekov, stated at the news conference at INFOTAG on Friday.

Answering INFOTAG’s question about how greatly the election result, showed by Amanat at the March 19 elections, differs from the one achieved at the previous election, the diplomat said that the latest result is about 20% lower than the previous one.

According to Ambassador Almat Aidarbekov, the passage of six political parties to the Parliament was facilitated by the reform of the political system of Kazakhstan, initiated by President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev. As part of this reform, the process of registration of political parties was simplified with a significant reduction in the minimum number of members (from 20,000 to 5,000) for party registration, which allowed new parties to take part in the early elections.

“Also, the minimum threshold for entering the parliament was reduced from 7% to 5% votes,” the diplomat said.

When asked about the presence of international observers at the elections, the Ambassador said that 800 observers from 12 organizations and 40 states, including from the Moldovan Central Election Commission, participated in the electoral process in Kazakhstan.
