TRANSNISTRIAN CONFLICT VETERANS DEMAND THAT AUTHORITIES MUST FULFILL ECHR DECISIONS ON THEIR RIGHT TO HAVE HOUSING IN CHISINAU

Veterans of the 1992 armed conflict in Transnistria demand that the authorities implement the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights to satisfy their legal right to housing in Chisinau. Chairman of the Association of Refugees from Transnistria Anatolie Bizgu said on Monday at a press conference at the INFOTAG agency that on October 5, two ECHR decisions were announced on claims of Moldova citizens from among veterans.

“The Moldovan authorities were condemned by the European authorities for violating the veterans’ right to property and the right to a fair trial. The State, at the expense of the Budget, was obliged to pay 15 thousand euros as compensation for moral damage. However, concrete judges, municipal officials and advisers, and bailiffs are to blame for what is happening. They, and no one else, should bear administrative and financial responsibility for the unresolved problems of veterans. The Ministry of Justice should bring recourse claims against them so that these payments are not made at the expense of the State,” Bizgu emphasized.

He reminded that the ECHR verdict was made against the most vulnerable category of the population - veterans of the conflict on the Dniester from among the former officers of the Ministry of the Interior, who 31 years ago were among the first to defend their homeland from aggression.

According to him, back in April the Government announced that a working group on veterans’ problems had been formed, but so far not a single meeting of the group has been held, and the Government has not solved a single problem of the veterans.
