CIVIL SOCIETY REPRESENTATIVES CALL CITIZENS TO COME TO THE POLLS TO PREVENT FALSIFICATIONS

The representatives of the civil society association Republica, of the Center for Human Rights Monitoring (CMRDOM), a number of independent experts call on citizens to actively participate in the elections in order to prevent falsification of results.

Republica Chairman Anatolie Dubrovschi stated at a press conference held at INFOTAG on Wednesday that the PAS authorities have been governing the country in an emergency mode for almost two years now, without providing any arguments in favor of this decision.

“The PAS authorities violate the Main Law Articles on Moldova’s neutrality (taking into account the conduct of exercises in the territory of the republic with the participation of foreign military personnel), on the citizens’ right to information (closing of TV channels and websites), on the right to elect and be elected (restriction on participation in elections of a certain category of citizens)”, said the social activist.

He expressed concern that the authorities could take advantage of the state of emergency in the local elections on November 5, “for example, by canceling the election results in some localities, under the pretext of a Russian interference.”

CMRDOM Executive Director Tihon Zaraf said that “according to closed opinion polls, PAS is losing citizens’ support and feels it cannot count on winning the elections, so we can expect various manipulations, as it was during the reign of the Plahotniuc’s Democratic Party.” In particular, according to Zaraf, the gap of 600 thousand people between the number of voters approved by the Central Election Commission and the real population of the republic raises suspicions.

Zaraf also noted that the Government, in violation of the principle of separation of powers, often assumes the powers of judges/prosecutors and uses administrative resources e.g. the “Extra Pays for Moldova” support program for public sector employees, announced by the Government during an election period.

“The state power may not and should not be considered as someone’s personal property,” the expert emphasized.

The social activists called on citizens to come en masse to polling stations on November 5, which they believe will enable avoiding election rigging.
