LIBERAL DEMOCRATS DEMAND THAT RULING PAS SHARE POWER WITH OPPOSITION

The extra-parliamentary Liberal Democratic Party (LDPM) demands that the ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) “share power with the opposition”, former Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat, the LDPM founder and incumbent leader, stated at a press briefing held in INFOTAG on Thursday.

Filat emphasized that the results of the local elections of November 5 call into question the legitimacy of the current country government represented by the Party of Action and Solidarity.

“The past election campaign was marked with gross violations committed at the direction of PAS. It was a campaign of manipulation, lies, pressure and threats against individual competitors, including the LDPM. Our rights and freedoms in this campaign were violated by the authorities. In this campaign there was no Central Electoral Commission as a regulatory body – the CEC acted as an instrument of PAS. Election fraud began long before the elections, as a result of which the elections were “stolen” and the results were distorted. Despite this, these results are eloquent,” the politician said.

He said that, “Even the PAS understands that there was no reason to vote for them, but there are plenty of reasons to demand their departure.”

“These elections were an alarming signal, since the result speaks of distrust in the authorities, which means distrust in the PAS party. The authorities must abandon dictatorial ways, they must remember that Moldova is a European country and that we are going to Europe. They must democratize the government with the involvement of opposition representatives,” said the LDPM leader.

In this context, Vlad Filat proposed to cede to the opposition 6 or 7 out of 9 seats in the Central Election Commission, to cede to the opposition the leadership of the Audiovisual Coordinating Council (ACC), the Teleradio-Moldova public broadcasting company and the Accounts Chamber.

“The legitimacy of power can only be restored through elections – free and democratic ones, without pressure or manipulation. Otherwise, PAS openly endorses usurpation of power and state capture. And it will be fully responsible for the consequences,” concluded Vlad Filat.
