22.12.2005 LONGINES OPTIMISTIC ABOUT MOLDOVAN SALES

Chisinau, December 23 (Infotag). Swiss watchmakers Longines have a bright outlook for Moldovan sales.

In the past seven years Godina International, official distributor of the Swiss brand in Moldova, has done a pretty good job in this respect, Walter von Kaenel, President of Longines Watch Company Francillon Ltd, told a news conference in Infotag Thursday.

This is my first trip to Moldova and I’m here to make sure that this small marketplace has a good future, he added.

Longines most expensive watches have been faring rather well here lately, a good sign of the growing potential of Moldovan customers.

CEO of Godina International Alex Caleniuc confirmed Longines Moldovan annual sales gross 500 items; in perspective there are chances to see the figure top 1,000.

“Longines items are usually retailed at $1,000-1,500 apiece. Back in our first four months, we had just one sale. Nowadays the situation is different and Longines is a solid runner-up, in terms sales, to Tissot,” Caleniuc advised.

He also complained about counterfeit production being sold in Moldova which is very difficult to fight. To tackle the problem Longines experts offer free consultations on how to spot the forgery at 59, Bernardazzi Street.
