Chisinau, July 26 (Infotag). The GenderDoc-M centre has said that the festival held on Saturday, 22 July, in Causeni as part of the European campaign for youth “We are all different but we are all equal” was not dedicated to sexual minorities in Moldova.

Speaking at a press conference held at Infotag’s premises on Wednesday, director of the GenderDoc-M centre Alexei Marcicov said that before the festival there were untrue reports saying that “the event is dedicated to sexual minorities and that it will be attended by about 200 gays and lesbians”.

“Heads of various Christian organizations called and sent letters to the Causeni mayoralty and other state structures asking them to ban such a festival and even threatened them”, Alexei Marcicov said.

According to him, “no gays or lesbians attended the festival, while GenderDoc-M together with many other NGOs simply discussed in Causeni the implementation of the national action plan on human rights”.

During the news conference, several people protested outside the Infotag headquarters against sexual minorities.
