Chisinau, February 8 (Infotag). The just emerged Acţiunea Europeană [European Action] socio-political movement maintains that the Ministry of Justice drags out the formation’s registration procedure by order of influential political rivals, in particular the Christian Democratic Popular Party.

Movement Chairman Anatol Petrenco stated at a news conference in Infotag today the ruling Communist Party is not interested in such procrastination, and “most probably, the registration dragging has been staged by oppositional forces that are beginning to lose their former popularity. For instance, two regional CDPP subdivisions have already joined Acţiunea Europeană”.

The Movement has brought a legal action against the Ministry of Justice for its refusal to register the new organization because of a large number of the signatures, raised in its favor, were allegedly forged.

“We submitted documents for registration to the Ministry of Justice on December 28, including 2 big sacks of signature lists, but already the following day the Ministry stated we had falsified a part of the documents. It is just impossible for 2 persons to check such a heap of documents in only one working day”, maintained Petrenco.

He said the Ministry had found 123 improper signatures in their total number of 6,639, “but even if this is really so, the remaining number of ‘proper’ signatures is more than enough for party registration, as the law-stipulated minimum of signatures is 5,000. What is going on with our registration is but a political gamesmanship aimed at non-admitting us to the Moldovan political arena”.

Acţiunea Europeană has applied to the Chisinau Municipality for permission to hold a protest action in front of the Ministry of Justice building on February 22, and near the National Opera and Ballet Theater on February 25.

The formation’s constituent congress was held in October 2006, though Acţiunea Europeană has been de-facto working since the fall of 2005.
