14.03.2007 SDPM FOUNDER OAZU NANTOI JOINTS DEMOCRATIC PARTY

Chisinau, March 14 (Infotag). The founder of the Social Democratic Party of Moldova, Oazu Nantoi, has become a member of the Democratic Party headed by MP Dumitru Diakov.

Today, Nantoi organized a news conference in Infotag to explain that step of his. He said the DP is the organization closest to his political principles.

“In 2004, I decided to make a break, and to think well what I would be doing in the future. Now I have joined the Democratic Party, and I feel quite well in it. I am sure that by acting together, we will come to take part in governing the country”, said Oazu Nantoi.

The politician was reluctant to elaborate on the reasons of his divorcing the SDPM, and only said, “The atmosphere in the DP is more social-democratic than there, so I have come here. I did not seek any high posts, but am not ruling out my possible participation in the 2007 local elections on municipal councilors’ tickets”.

DP Chairman Dumitru Diakov said, “Negotiations on strengthening Social Democratic forces in Moldova have been continuing since 1994. We have had hundreds of meetings with Mr. Nantoi concerning unification of our parties. We are happy he has become a DP member, and I am sure that thank to his experience, the Democratic Party will become a stronger political force”.

Diakov said the DP stands ready to unite with other political formations, “whose names contain the ‘social-democratic’ syntagma. I guess that after the local election, the social democratic formations, including the Party of Social Democracy of Dumitru Braghis, will seriously ponder over what to do next”.
