OVER TWO-THIRDS OF RESPONDENTS WILL GO TO POLLS

More than two-thirds of respondents will take part in the July 11 early parliamentary election, as per the findings of the opinion research Vox Populi for July 2021, which were presented at Infotag by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova on Monday.

According to the research, voter turnout may be quite high because 70.6% respondents stated they would definitely go to the polls, 9.7% said they would go “most probably”, but 17.6% said they would not go – definitely or most probably.

In a period of 3 to 2 weeks before the elections, the respondents’ preferences looked as follows: Maia Sandu’s Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) would poll 31.1% ballots, the voting bloc of Communists and Socialists – 30.9%, the Sor Party – 5.7%.

All the rest parties would not overcome the 5% election threshold (the more so the 7% threshold for voting blocs). Thus the Renato Usatii voting bloc would receive 4.6%, the Platforma DA – 4.5% and so forth. However, 16.8% interviewed citizens were unsure or said they would not go to the polls.

The above figures were received from the group of the so-called ‘random respondents’. But in the other group – of the so-called ‘determined voters’ who know whom they will vote for, the findings were as follows:  only 3 forces will enter the new Moldovan Parliament – the PAS, which would receive 37.4%, the voting bloc of Communists and Socialists – with 37.1%, and the Sor Party with 6.8%.

The opinion poll was carried out on June 21 through July 2 and it covered 1181 people eligible to vote, residing in 85 various-type localities across the republic, except the Transnistrian region. The pollsters are saying the error should not be in the excess of ±3%.

Further information about the Vox Populi research will be presented in subsequent Infotag news issues.
