IVAN GHEORGHIU CONSIDERS MOLDOVAN PARALYMPIANS’ PERFORMANCE IN TOKYO A SUCCESS

Former Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences Ivan Gheorghiu considers Moldovan paralympians’ performance at Tokyo Paralympic Games a success. He reported at a press conference that five out of six athletes entered the top ten according to the competitions’ results.

He believes that canoeist Serghey Tarnovschi’s performance, who won the bronze medal, can also be considered as an excellent one.

“This result could have been better if there had been interaction between the relevant ministry and the National Olympic Committee (NOC), headed by Nicolai Juravschi for a long time. Unfortunately, it is not happening. Following his instructions, the NOC finances mainly canoeing to the detriment of other sports… In fact, Tarnovschi’s victory is a result of “Juravschi’s project”. He is the athlete’s coach. He will receive the prize money from the state (2 million lei)”, Gheorghiu said.

“Over the last two years, as much as 60 million lei was spent for the preparation for the Olympic Games in Tokyo (seriously burdened by the pandemic). The NOC remained an institution closed from control. This situation is depressing and controversial”, Gheorghiu stated.
