REPRESENTATIVES OF INTERIOR MINISTRY’S TRADE UNIONS CALL FOR BETTER SOCIAL GUARANTEES FOR LAW-ENFORCERS

Representatives of the federation of trade unions of Moldova "Sindlex" of the country’s Ministry of Interior Affairs (MIA) consider that provision of social guarantees for Moldovan law-enforcers must be improved.

The chairman of “SINDLEX” trade union, Mihail Lascu, said on Tuesday at a press conference at the INFOTAG news agency that "the social and economic protection of public servants with special status is the main objective of the unions, which they are promoting in their agenda."

"Our law enforcers, including border guards, rescuers, carabinieri, have been working under crisis conditions for not the first year. Now there is a state of emergency in the north of the country, and there are protests in Chisinau.  This means that the guardians of law and order are in a state of tension, fulfilling their professional duties to ensure public order. But all these expenditures of effort and energy must be compensated by the state", the trade union leader stressed.

He also recalled that 2022 in Moldova was marked by "galloping inflation."

"It is necessary to raise the salaries of all employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as of the employees of the National Penitentiary System of the Ministry of Justice by at least the inflation rate, which will be about 35%", Lascu believes.

In his opinion, police officers should be provided in addition with free hot meal coupons (to minimize gastritis diseases), a system of vouchers for vacations should be introduced, and provision of uniforms by seasons of the year should be guaranteed.

"Uniforms, service equipment, and special vehicles used need to be updated, so that the performance of law enforcement duties takes place in comfortable conditions," the head of trade union concluded.
