MOLDOVA GAINING ROMANIA’S GOOD PRACTICES OF EFFICIENT USING OF EUROPEAN FUNDS

Thanks to familiarization with Romania's “good practices” in the using of European funds, Moldova will be able to achieve 100% utilization of financial resources from the European Union, Iurie Calestru, Programs Director at the Institute for Project Appraisal, said at a press conference held at Infotag on Friday.

He spoke about the Conference of the representatives of central and local authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, held in the Maramures county, which was dedicated to the activation of the development of European funds.

“Romania's experience in preparing projects that the European Union will finance in the Republic of Moldova in the future is of a paramount importance. Studying this experience and establishing partnerships with representatives of the Romanian authorities will allow Moldova to maximize the use of means coming from various EU funds,” said Calestru.

Within the framework of the Maramures Conference, several dozen participants from the Republic of Moldova visited the hospital in Baia Mare, which was modernized with EU funds and now meets all the modern requirements of the patients of the city having a population of 120,000 people.

At the Conference, representatives of the central and local authorities of the Republic of Moldova discussed possible partnerships for the implementation of joint projects in the republic, which, thanks to their respective preparation, could receive financial support from various EU funds.

Moldova’s Nisporeni Raion Chairman Vasile Marcuta, who participated in the Conference in Baia Mare, said that the meeting had been very important for the Moldovan authorities’ representatives.

“Meetings with colleagues and partners from Romania help us to learn from Romania's experience in implementing projects of various profiles, which were financially supported by EU funds,” he said.

According to him, the Moldovan side, in partnership with the Romanian colleagues, needs to decide on priorities and establish direct ties for cooperation.
