23 may, 2024

Deputies from the opposition Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) informed at a meeting with members of the Venice Commission (VC), headed by its chairman Claire Bazy Malaurie, about violations of the ruling PAS Party.

The press service of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) announced that Vlad Batrincea, Constantin Staris and Grigore Novac noted "the urgent need to counteract the vicious practices of the current government in order to build a truly rule-of-law state, to ensure the independence of the institutions of justice, the Constitutional Court, the prosecutor's office, television and radio broadcasting, and the Central Election Commission.

They drew attention to the introduction by the parliamentary majority of amendments to the electoral legislation in an election year, which contradicts the Code of Good Electoral Practice adopted by the Venice Commission.

"During the dialog they also discussed frequent violations of human rights in Moldova, restriction of the right to freedom of expression, political control of the media, persecution of the opposition," the PSRM said.
