LITHUANIA WILL BACK MOLDOVA IN ITS MILITARY REFORM

Lithuania will help Moldova reform its defense sector, Lithuanian Minister of Defense Juozas Olekas stated in Chisinau on Thursday.      

The guest stated also that his coming to Moldova is of a considerable importance in the run-up to the Vilnius Summit due in late November, at which Moldova is going to initial its Association Agreement with the European Union.   

Juozas Olekas underlined that over last several years Moldova has achieved a considerable progress in promoting its European aspirations.    

He welcomed Moldova’s preparedness to taking part in the international peacekeeper operation in Kosovo, and stressed that NATO needs European countries’ support of this operation.   

The Lithuanian Minister of Defense is scheduled to meet also with the Moldovan Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman and with Alexei Barbaneagra, the Presidential Adviser on Defense and National Security Issues.
