USA TO ALLOCATE MOLDOVA ADDITIONAL FUNDS

The United States will allot additional proceeds for carrying out a string of projects in Moldova. According to the Government’s press relations bureau, the Cabinet of Ministers made amendments to three Moldo-American Agreements, thus, raising the sums agreed before.     

The three Moldo-American documents are: the Agreement on Economic Growth, signed on July 6, 2010; the Agreement on the Support of Local Public Authorities, signed on September 17, 2010; and the Agreement for the Rule of Law Institutional Strengthening Program, dated July 22, 2011.

According to the proposed amendments, the USA will additionally allot over US$5 million for carrying out projects on the creation of a favorable business environment and on increasing the productivity of the private sector, including for the support of small enterprises. After the allotment of these proceeds, the overall assistance sum granted within the frameworks of the Agreement on Economic Growth will stand at US$32.7 million.   

The second amendment provides for replenishing the sum allotted for the implementation of a Project for the Support of Local Authorities, by US$2.4 million, up to US$11.9 million.  

“The introduced amendments will allow consolidating the process of decentralization and the relations between the local public authorities and the citizens, by promoting projects on the development of the Moldovan populated areas,” the message says.

The amendments to the Program for the Rule of Law Institutional Strengthening Program envisage the allocation of US$2.5 million in order to increase the efficiency and the transparency of the Moldovan judicial system.
