FLOAREA SOARELUI PROMISES TO SETTLE ACCOUNTS WITH FARMERS FOR DELIVERED SUNFLOWER SEEDS THIS WEEK

09 april, 2024

The second round of negotiations between producers and processors of sunflower seeds took place yesterday at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

As reported by the ministry's press service to INFOTAG, Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea emphasized the important role of local producers and processors in providing the population of the Republic of Moldova with vegetable oil, noting the need to maintain oil prices and priority attention to the interests of producers and citizens of the country.

The parties discussed prices that processors can offer to agricultural producers for their existing sunflower seed stocks.

Representatives of the largest sunflower oil producer in the republic, SA”Floarea Soarelui”, said that last week they managed to pay off a significant part of the debt to farmers, and the remaining payments will be completed this week.

Earlier, the National Emergency Situations Commission extended the deadline for licensing the import of grain and sunflower seeds, limiting their import from Ukraine. At the same time, “Floarea Soarelui” announced a halt in production due to a shortage of raw materials. However, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Moldovan farmers still have at least 60,000 tons of sunflower seeds in stock, and the issue is only in agreeing on prices for them.
