MOLDOVAGAZ TO BE ABLE TO PURCHASE GAS ON THE FREE MARKET STARTING MAY 1, WHILE ENERGOCOM WILL SELL GAS TO OTHER CONSUMERS

10 april, 2024

The deadline is approaching at the end of April, by which decision of the National Emergency Situations Commission, Moldovagaz purchases gas from the state-owned company Energocom. Thus, starting from May 1, Moldovagaz can return to the usual gas procurement regime - from the Russian ”Gazprom” or on the free market. According to INFOTAG, this is stated in a letter from the operator to the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), where it describes possible scenarios for the development of events in the gas market of Moldova.

In particular, Moldovagaz notes that from May to September, it will be able to meet gas needs by purchasing it from “Gazprom” or other suppliers on competitive terms to balance the minimum cost of purchased gas and ensure supply to consumers.

In turn, Energocom Director Victor Binzari noted on one of the TV shows that from May the enterprise no longer has any obligations to Moldovagaz and will try to participate in as many tenders as possible to sell gas to other companies - large consumers. That's why Energocom participated in the auction announced by the Chisinau Glass Factory, despite Moldovagaz's dissatisfaction. Binzari also announced that by May 1, the company will complete all previously purchased gas volumes and will start new purchases.

Earlier, a member of the Administrative Board of Energocom, Alexander Slusari, strongly opposed gas purchases from “Gazprom.” He reported that Energocom bought gas on the free market for April at prices lower than those offered by “Gazprom.”
