MOLDOVA AND NORWAY TO SIGN MEMORANDUM ON ENERGY COOPERATION

07 may, 2024

Moldova and Norway will sign a memorandum of cooperation in the energy sector. The press service of the Energy Ministry informed INFOTAG news agency that the document will be signed by Energy Ministers of the two countries Victor Parlicov and Terje Aasland.

The document will be signed within the framework of President Maia Sandu's state visit to Norway. The signing will take place on Tuesday during a round table on energy at the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation.

According to the report, the document is aimed at strengthening the Moldovan-Norwegian cooperation in the energy sector and at creating mutually beneficial investment opportunities.

As INFOTAG previously reported, in summer 2023, Norway gave Moldova a grant of 50 million euros to improve energy security and support Ukrainian refugees in Moldova. In December 2023, the Norwegian government decided to offer, through the NANSEN Support Program for Ukraine, financial assistance in the form of a grant also to Moldova, including for its energy sector, to reduce the socio-economic impact caused by the war in Ukraine. The grant for Moldova in 2023 is estimated at about NOK 500 million, of which NOK 400 million (about €34 million) is allocated through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
