LAW ENFORCERS DISCOVERED IN BALTI LARGE CONSIGNMENT OF SMUGGLED CIGARETTES PARTLY IMPORTED FROM UKRAINE

The prosecutors and tax officers discovered in Balti a wholesale consignment of smuggled cigarettes, partly imported from Ukraine. Law enforcers followed the criminal scheme for more than two months. Tobacco products worth 14 million lei were seized. Thousands of boxes of cigarettes were kept by three local residents. The organizer of the scheme, previously convicted for fraud and smuggling and wanted in Romania, was arrested. A document issued by the authorities of the unrecognized PMR was seized from him. Those who kept cigarettes in their homes were confiscated 140 thousand euros and almost half a million lei, which were probably obtained from the sale of tobacco products.
