DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER VALERIU CHIVERI RESIGNS TO SUPPORT HIS FORMER CHIEF’S PROJECT

09 march, 2015

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Valeriu Chiveri has tendered resignation. As he explained in the social networks on Monday, he does not wish to work in a minority government. Now he intends to join the political project of former Prime Minister Iurie Leanca.

“I don't believe that a minority government is able to promote reforms. I don't believe that such government can implement the Association Agreement we have signed with the European Union. Like many citizens, I believed to the last day that democratic-orientation parties would form a pro-European governing coalition. But Moldova was thrown into the hands of a coalition that is incapable of carrying out reforms”, wrote Valeriu Chiveri.

He explained his intention to join Iurie Leanca’s team because “this is the only team in the country that is able to restore citizens’ trust in country governance and in Moldova’s transformation into an up-to-date and prosperous republic”.

Infotag’s dossier: Valeriu Chiveri is a career diplomat, who has been on service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration since 1995. He was appointed deputy minister in August 2013. Before that, he was Moldova’s ambassador to Austria and Slovakia, and the head of the Republic of Moldova delegation to the OSCE Permanent Council. Valeriu Chiveri also worked in OSCE missions in several countries.

Last couple of weeks, intentions to support Iurie Leanca’s political project were stated by former Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Affairs Eugen Carpov and Director of the National Bureau for Ties with the Diaspora Victor Lutenco.
