OUR PARTY STANDS FOR EARLY ELECTION AND AGAINST ONE-MANDATE SYSTEM

20 march, 2017

The opposition Partidul Nostru [Our Party] stands for holding an snap parliamentary election and against the introduction of one-mandate or a mixed electoral system in Moldova. Such are the main results of the organization’s 5th extraordinary congress, which was held in Chisinau on March 18 and was attended by nearly 500 delegates from all over the republic.

The congress adopted a Resolution saying that the opposition must jointly oppose to the authorities’ plan to introduce one-mandate or a mixed electoral system in Moldova.

“The purpose of this “reform” initiated by the Democratic Party is to fully compromise and ruin political parties as the basis of the country’s political system so as to preserve the current oligarchic clan in power. Presently, the parties standing up against this “reform” represent more than 90% of the Moldovan population. A minority has no right to mock at a majority so impudently”, said the OP Resolution.

Our Party Chairman and Balti City Mayor Renato Usatii, who is hiding in Moscow from what he calls “the Plahotniuc justice of Moldova” since August 2016, took part in the congress by means of the Internet and stated that OP is “the party, which the ruling regime is panically afraid of”.

“A proof to this are the numerous criminal litigations initiated against Usatii, against party activist Felix Grincu, Mayor of Basarabeasca Valentin Cimpoies, OP National Council member Nicolae Hacico”, said the party leader.

Usatii underlined that Our Party is acting as a pro-Moldova organization whose values are the ideals of a sovereign and independent state. The party’s first-priority objective is to create a viable Moldovan State on the basis of a new Constitution.

The OP congress was attended by three Members of the Russian State Duma [parliament] representing the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia. Delegation leader Boris Morozov said that for the LDPR, Our Party is the partner, with which a strategic partnership agreement was signed in Moscow last week.

“We believe it is very important to support our like-minded partners in Moldova and to back Renato Usatii. He is a young and very energetic politician whom citizens of Moldova trust. We believe that our inter-party cooperation will promote the establishment of warm friendly relations between our countries. Historically, we were in traditionally close and good neighborly relations, and it is very important for us to have Moldova strong and prosperous, so that its citizens were happy about their life”, stressed the LDPR Superior Council Member.

The congress elected two new Deputy Chairpersons of Our Party – Balti Municipal Councilor Elena Gritco and prominent Moldovan journalist and Our Party’s presidential ex-candidate Dumitru Ciubasenco. Now Usatii will have five deputy chairpersons. The rest three are Nicolae Tipovici, Ilian Casu and Elena Panus – all being Chisinau Municipal Council deputies.

After the congress, the delegates and Our Party activists marched to remand prison #13 in central Chisinau, where Valentin Cimpoies and Felix Grincu are being detained. The marchers, including OP deputy chairpersons held a rally before the prison, demanding immediate release of the political prisoners.
