PAS INQUIRES CC IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO HOLD TWO ELECTIONS SIMULTANEOUSLY

27 may, 2020

On Wednesday, MP Sergiu Litvinenco of the Party of Action and Solidarity filed an inquiry with the Constitutional Court asking if it is possible to hold a presidential election and an early parliamentary election on one day. Not long ago, an analogous inquiry was lodged by a Socialist parliamentarian.

Litvinenco explained to journalists that unlike the Socialists, he wants to know if such a scenario is possible in case the President is dismissed.

“President Dodon said repeatedly that he wants to cleanse the political class off the people of Plahotniuc and Shor, and that was allegedly why he began promoting the question of simultaneous elections. But we are suggesting first dismissing the President and then holding the elections. This is realistic from the viewpoint of the Constitution”, presumes the PAS lawmaker.

He also said that in case of the President’s removal, the holding of two elections on one day is “a good decision from the viewpoint of saving Budget money”.

“If Igor Dodon is truly sincere and if he really wants to rid the Parliament of Shor’s and Plahotniuc’s corrupters, then I can see no obstacles to his volunteer resignation for the sake of ensuring a snap parliamentary election”, said Sergiu Litvinenco.
