MOLDOVAN PARLIAMENT CONDEMNS POLITICAL MIGRATION AND DEPUTIES’ CORRUPTION

11 june, 2020

At its ordinary plenary meeting held on Thursday, the Moldovan Parliament adopted a Declaration condemning the phenomenon of ‘political migration’ [aka ‘parliamentary tourism’] and deputies’ corruption. The document was approved unilaterally, including by the 15 deputies, who migrated recently from the parliamentary Democratic Party faction to the Pro Moldova group and to the Ilan Shor Party faction.

The Declaration text, prepared by the Democratic faction, was read out from the parliament rostrum by MP Alexandru Jizdan.

“The bribing of deputies pursues the objective to artificially change the proportion of forces in the Parliament and to subdue the power to certain interests. Political corruption must be regarded through the prism of attempts to usurp power”, said Jizdan.

The Declaration stirred up a hot debate in the forum. Deputies from the Pro Moldova group and Ilan Shor Party proposed to hold an early parliamentary election so that to let voters say their opinion concerning the ‘parliamentary tourism’, and to “let them determine by themselves who a traitor is and who is not”.

PAS MP Dan Perciun accused the Democrats of hypocrisy, reminding them that in the previous Parliament, the DPM factions used to constantly apply to the services of “turncoats and defectors”, and had eventually bought up a majority in the legislative forum.
