MOLDOVAN PRESIDENT IN COMRAT: AUTHORITIES DO THEIR BEST TO PRESERVE PEACE, SECURITY AND HARMONY IN COUNTRY

10 april, 2024

“The government is doing its best to preserve peace, security and harmony in the country,” President Maia Sandu said this on Wednesday, addressing students of Comrat University.

"And this fully concerns Gagauzia, an important part of the Republic of Moldova. Contrary to cheap propaganda, Chisinau is serious about the development of Gagauzia, about the well-being of the Gagauz," she said.

The head of state considers it an "undoubted" achievement of Moldova that "no one here divides citizens by language or ethnicity."

"For me, the president of Moldova, the government - everyone is equal. The only division we make is between the honest and the corrupt. To everyone who wants to play on the national and linguistic grounds, I want to say that we take this issue seriously and we will not allow to push our citizens...," Sandu said.

She urged students to study both the Romanian language and the Gagauz language.

"We launched a program to study the Romanian language. I am glad that this program, which is financed by the state, is popular, including in Gagauzia. Three years ago, the authorities of the autonomy promised to develop such a program to study the Gagauz language. Unfortunately, this was not done. Apparently, this is not among the priorities of the current authorities of Gagauzia. We would like the Gagauz, including students of Comrat University, to know the Gagauz language. And Gagauzia should be the most interested in this," the president emphasized.

The head of state also said that "dozens of infrastructure projects have been financed in Gagauzia from the central budget and from European money", while the current authorities in Comrat only make promises.
